Insurance Verification: Delta Dental MFA Setup Required

Action Required: Delta Dental now requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to access eligibility and benefit information.

To stay compliant and ensure your Insurance Verification (IV) continues running without interruption, RevenueWell has created a one-time setup process. Once completed, we’ll handle MFA automatically in the background on your behalf.

  • To begin:
    1. To complete this process, you first need to clear your browser cache.
    2. Next, log in to RevenueWell and Delta Dental.
  • In RevenueWell:
    1. Open Settings (gear icon) → Insurance Verification.
    2. In the Payer Setup tab, locate Delta Dental.
Note: Find the Delta Dental Insurance Identifier with the actions “EDIT” and “DELETE” available (not “UNLINK”).
    3. Click "Edit."
    4. Click through the payer setup steps, ensuring the following is completed:
      • Step 1: Attach Payer - Required: See our FAQ for instructions on which Payer to select. ⚠️
      • Step 2: Define Relationships - Update if necessary, and click “Next.”
      • Step 3: Add Payer Portal Credentials - Click "Setup Auto MFA."
        • Here, view the instructions and click “Continue” to see the pre-provisioned phone number and next steps.
        • Copy the phone number here and click the "Open Portal" link to open the Delta Dental provider portal in a new tab (keeping RevenueWell IV Settings open in a separate tab to come back to).
  • In Delta Dental:
    1. In the newly launched window, log in to Delta Dental, and open your Profile settings. Under Multi-factor Methods:
      • Click “Add Phone.”
      • Complete the Delta Dental verification process to verify your identity. This is required by Delta Dental before adding or editing Multi-factor Methods.
      • Once you have verified your identity, you can now select “SMS” as the new verification method and paste the phone number generated by RevenueWell.

  • Back in RevenueWell:
    1. To verify the MFA phone number, return to your open RevenueWell page and click “I’m Done” to view the verification code.
    2. The code will then appear on the next page. Copy and paste this code into the Delta Dental screen.
    3. Once verified, RevenueWell will be able to automatically renew the MFA when required. Click “Complete.”
    4. To check your connection status anytime, open Settings (gear icon) → Insurance Verification → Payer Setup tab. Within the list of payers, your status should now say, “Completed.”
  • Which Payer should I select?

If you connect Delta Dental of Tennessee successfully during your initial setup, and later need to connect Delta Dental of Ohio, select Delta Dental of Tennessee as the payer again.

How do I access my Account settings on the Delta Dental Ins website?

In the top-right corner, click on the “Welcome, [Your Name]” menu. When the dropdown opens, select Edit profile to access your profile settings.

How do I access my Account settings on Delta Dental Toolkit website?

In the left menu click on the “Admin”. When the dropdown opens, select My profile to access your profile settings.

Do I need to go through this process for each Delta Dental insurance listed on my Insurance Settings page?

Not necessarily. Once you successfully complete verification for one Delta Dental insurance, the system will automatically update the status for your other Delta Dental insurances that are linked to the payer that was selected during the MFA setup. If you still see “Invalid Credentials” on any of them, you’ll need to connect them to the Delta Dental payer that was already successfully verified with MFA.

Please note that Delta Dental of Massachusetts is not currently supported for MFA.

    I didn’t get a phone number - how do I troubleshoot?

If the phone number doesn’t generate and you see an error, try the following:

    1. Go one step back and re-enter the last step.
    2. If that doesn’t work, restart the setup from the beginning.

When I enter the code generated by RevenueWell during Delta Dental verification, it says “Invalid code.” What should I do?

RevenueWell generates the first code for you automatically. If that code doesn’t work or has expired, please follow the Delta Dental verification flow to request a new code directly from Delta Dental.

If the Delta Dental Multi-factor Authentication setup is not completed, only clearinghouse eligibility data will be available for Delta Dental patients' eligibility report.
